Hedgehogs are Britain's only spiny mammal and are now recognised as being in serious decline as a result of intensive farming and mass urbanisation. We have been lucky enough to meet some real characters in the course of our work, some of which are pictured below:-
Summer Orphans
These young Hedgehogs are weaning on to solids and displaying "self annointing" behaviour! These three Hedgehogs were just 40g when they arrived. All 3 were later released weighing around 600g
These are the youngest Hedgehogs we have ever had brought in! Ready for dinner? Young Hedgehogs are fed on a special formula Puppy milk called Esbilac.

Autumn Orphans
This Hedgehog came in weighing just 250g during October 2009. She was released in Spring 2010. ThisHedgehog would never have made it through the Winter, weiging in at just 275g in November!
We can easily find it necessary to care for around 100 young Hedgehogs during the September to December season who are just too small to hibernate!

Injured Hedgehogs
This Hedgehog is recovering from an operation to fix a broken jaw. She was later released. This odd looking Hedgehog is suffering from mange. He went on to make a full recovery.
This Hedgehog had to be cut out of a football net which was dragging along the floor. A Hedgehog receiving treatment for ringworm!
