It
is so important to feed our garden birds these days. during the Winter,
they face starvation and during the Summer they face the possibility
that their chicks will starve if they can't find enough food.
There is evidence to show that the feeding of garden birds
during the Winter months improves their breeding success in Spring and
for our declining birds especially, that has to be a wonderful thing.
Whilst
it is great to have a variety of feeders and foodstuffs around the garden,
it needn't be a costly exercise. Leaving out leftovers such as bacon
rind, bread, pasta, pastry, cheese, fruit, peanuts and bird seed will
also go a long way towards helping garden birds.
We
have provided the following recipes for inexpensive feed for birds,
so go on and have a try.

Once
you start feeding, don’t stop – birds will rely on the food
you put out and make a special journey to your garden to fill up. A
fruitless trip is a waste of time and energy, making survival even harder.
If
you have a cat or know that cat's visit your garden, remember to put
your bird table away from trees and fences to protect the birds.
